For those who don't know, Bizzy B's Brain label was one of the most futuristic in the early days when hardcore was becoming jungle. From 92-94 they released some of the best Junglistic'ardcore there was. Classics like Darkness, Weekend, Dub plate Wars, 2 Dope EP, and artists like TDK whose TOG sub label was a peak of amen choppage. Brain also put out the debut releases of Technical Itch, Peshay and DJ Zinc and Slammin' Vinyl's Mike Slammer and Red Alert's first two releases. Bizzy also released many a classic on other labels such as Whitehouse, Suburban Base and many more. His own production / studio hire company called B Productions aimed at helping new talents and putting tracks together. This Studio saw the birth of still highly successful Beatfreaks. Engineering for chart artists such as DJ Luck & MC Neat, B Productions has become one of London’s most successful dance recording studios. In 2002 Brian was producing 2-step and Breaks with his Undercover Agents label and still releasing drum'n'bass under Warped Science. Brian's EPs for us are a new update of the Old Skool sound. "New Old School" if you will. Using todays production values so it'll kick in a drum'n'bass set today.

Murderbot played his first DJ gig in 1995 at the age of 13, and has since then played at over 400 events in 15 countries. As a producer, he first got attention through a lot of old-school-influenced neo-jungle tunes. His jungle stuff tends to be very heavy on drumwork and edits, with a lot of gangsta rap influence and a little bit of ragga influence. After some successful jungle releases on Mashit, Clash, and some other labels, as well as a fair chunk of press exposure from XLR8R, Grooves, BBC Radio 1, Pitchfork Media, and loads of others, Murderbot founded his own label, Dead Homies, as an outlet for catchy, dancefloor-worthy, well-produced, forward-thinking jungle and dubstep. In addition to jungle, however, he is a huge nerd about a lot of other genres: classic rave, speed garage, chicago house, ghettotech / juke, dancehall, electro, bassline, new wave, post-punk, soca, dubstep, and most of all disco. In the past few years he has been taking the focus off of jungle and set up a second label, Sleazetone Records, to put out sleaze pop, hi-NRG, tech house, juke / ghettotech, rave revival type stuff, speed garage. Their first project, a CD and series of singles by Kansas City-based art collective Ssion, has gotten a ton of positive press, and this is just the beginning. Watch out for the next few things Murderbot has lined up, releases by Monkey Steak, Bobby Braun, and himself.

MURDERBOT shouts
'Murderbot demonstrates just how strong his next-generation ragga-core kung-fu skills are on 'Fi You,' while also demonstrating a strong sense of musical dynamics with his ballsy use of Jethro Tull's 'Cross Eye Mary' to build up the tension before the killer breakbeats on 'Twilight Zone.'
- Howard Shih, Grooves Magazine
'Kansas City's Murderbot is one of the US's leading ragga jungle producers and 'Fi You' blends Waterhouse vocal samples with rattling aments. Headz who'll play anything from Luke Vibert's Plug to Congo Natty plates should check [this] inventive disc...'
- DJ Chopper, XLR8R Magazine
'Fucking hellfire - Mashit 6&7!! Goddamn - the next 2 Mashit 12s are fucking SMOKING man! I'm battling the urge to play all tracks from both back-to-back on the radio show, I swear. They're all off the hinges mate, seriously. Oh yes - these are gonna get fucking RINSED in coming weeks! Peace - and much props!'
- Mr. Trick, Rhythm Incursions, Resonance FM, London
'But single of the month is undoubtedly Murderbot's (need it be said?) unauthorized ragga jungle remix of Amerie's '1 Thing'. If any current r&b or rap track was crying out for the drum & bass bootleg treatment, it's Rich Harrison's go-go symphony, which all but sounds like slowed-down jungle to begin with. Murderbot keeps most of the percussion intact, with his genius move being syncopating the bass hits with the stabbing guitar of the original.'
- Jess Harvell, Pitchfork Media |
