Etwas Unerhörtes tut sich bereits seit Jahrzehnten auf Europas Straßen: Menschen finden sich mit Posaunen, Trompeten, Tubas und anderen Blasinstrumenten zusammen und machen... Musik.
Klar, Musik. Aber was für eine! Fernab vom Dunstkreis der Bierzelt- und Im-Gleichschritt-Marsch-Kultur formieren sich Kollektive, die ihre Musik als lebendige Möglichkeit kreativen Ausdrucks begreifen, mit innovativen Arrangements, beeinflusst von Musikstilen aus der ganzen Welt, ihr Publikum zum Schwingen bringen und Zeichen für ein neues – nicht nur musikalisches – Miteinander setzen.
Skappa'nabanda!, das transkulturelle Festival für alternative Blasmusik, bietet die Möglichkeit, eine ganze Reihe solcher Formationen zu erleben. Das Masala Brass Kollektiv lädt zu seinem fünften Geburtstag befreundete Bandas aus Italien, Deutschland und der Slowakei zum gemeinsamen Bradln, Marchen und Chillen nach Graz ein. Zahlreiche Auftritte und Jam-Sessions im öffentlichen Raum, eine Parade durch die Innenstadt mit etwa hundert aktiven MusikerInnen, ein großes Fest im Volkshaus und vieles tolles mehr erwarten das Publikum... Lasst die Banda nicht entfleuchen!

Ein großes Manko von diesen Straßenorchestern ist leider, dass Videos mit gutem Sound sehr selten sind - mensch muss sie einfach live erleben, da hilft nix!
Die Express Brass Band hat da trotzdem was ganz nettes:

"The Titubanda, from the Italian "titubare" -the wavering band-, is a wind and percussion ensemble of musicians started on the first of May 1998 during a street theater performance.
Initially known especially for its Latin American repertoire the Titubanda gradually extended its musical bandwidth to include Eastern European tunes and revised jazz classics, its repertoire is a long musical journey from Cuba to Bombay through the Balkans, from Brooklyn to Cairo, reinterpreting classics like Domenico Modugno, the King Crimson, Charles Mingus and Khaled as well... along with original songs composed by members of the band.
Musical direction, internal organization and activities are strictly managed by the members, as well as financial support. The band is a non profit association and does not receive any aid or found by local institutions, which gives great freedom even though reducing the group's potentials and facilities.
Distinguishing features of the Titubanda are its community involvement and participation in demonstrations aimed at promoting civic causes but also playing spontaneously in Rome's streets and squares in an attempt to revive a now vanished atmosphere in the super hi-tech western world.
The Titubanda has always maintained close contact with the activities of the social centers, both sharing community based projects and musical rehersal space. Moreover, the band's autonomous, roving musical presence is by definition a political statement."
Looking outwardly, the band's presence in the streets and piazza's of the city gives it a poetic impact in strident dissonance with the rhythm and individualistic phobias of western society. An approximate in-tune dissonance which creates immediate involvement, touching deep chords, desires for socializing and need for celebrations which are always repressed in "normal" day-to-day life."

Murga Patas Arriba (Roma/IT)
"Patas Arriba highlights the paradox of the “upside-down world” that is celebrated in the carnival tradition. One art form arising from carnival is the Murga Argentina: Still thriving and developing in the districts of Buenos Aires, it has its roots in the last century, when the music of the former slaves encountered that of the European immigrants. Uniting dance with the sounds of protest, the Murga soon developed into the voice of the people, filling the streets with a pulsating vibe throughout the year and speaking out for social justice and a right to happiness.
Murga Patas Arriba is a small but explosive formation comprising dancers and musicians from various parts of the world. All living in Rome, these artists meld their own cultural backgrounds and artistic experiences with the carnival tradition of Rio de la Plata. For ten years now the Murga Patas Arriba have been building on past experiences of Murga in Rome with the aim of continuing and spreading the Murga tradition of Buenos Aires. With originality and attention to detail they provide a spectacle that unites the energy, enthusiasm and communicative power of this Argentinian tradition. With its typical colourful costumes and painted faces, the power of the (exclusively percussion) instruments and the energy of dance, the Murga has been bringing joy to young and old alike on Italy’s streets and piazzas, little by little turning reality into carnival!"

OOOOH OOOOH OOOOMPHERA!
Das war vielleicht ein Start gestern! Die Stimmung ist genial, wir haben gut diskutiert, gespielt, getanzt, gesungen und das war erst der Anfang!
Gleich gehts los mit der Parade, Graz wird Augen und Ohren machen!
Nur leider: gestern haben wir eine Anzeige kassiert bei unsrer spontanen Augartenbespielung als ca 50-köpfige Brassband (bei der uns viele begeisterte Menschen besucht haben) - Liebe Freunde der (alternativen) Blasmusik, zeigt euch solidarisch - kommt uns heute Abend besuchen!

Also Danke an ALLE, fürs Mitfeiern, Mitarbeiten, Spielen, schauen, zuhören, fürs Tanzen trotz Hitze, für die ganze positive Energie die sich ausgebreitet hat, für die ganze Unterstützung aus Nähe und Ferne.
